The Advanced Options dialog box is displayed by pressing the Advanced Options button on the main MPMileage dialog box. These advanced options control how MapPoint runs.
MPMileage has the capability to run multiple instances of MapPoint in parallel. This can greatly increase the processing speed on a modern multi-core (multi-CPU) computer. The number of MapPoint instances is set with the Number of Processing Threads setting. The maximum value is automatically set to the number of CPU cores in your computer. The optimum setting depends on a number of factors, including the number of available cores, the version of MapPoint that you are using, and whether there are any other high-load processes running. A certain degree of experimentation may be required. As a guide, if your PC is not running anything else then a dual core machine should probably run with two processing threads. A quad core machine should probably run with three processing threads if you are using MapPoint 2006 or later. Earlier versions of MapPoint may run faster if four processing threads are specified.
The Restart Interval sets the number of routes between MapPoint restarts. MapPoint's route finding suffers from poor memory management. Over time his results in memory growth and slow performance. It is recommended that MapPoint is restarted periodically. A value of 1000 is probably sufficient, but you should reduce this if the memory usage is too high.
