The various MapPoint routing parameters are set in the Routing Parameters box in the main MPMileage dialog box:
Use the Route Type drop-down box to select what kind of route to be calculated. The standard MapPoint options of Shortest Route, Quickest Route, and Preferred Roads are available, plus Straight Line. Straight Line calculates a Great Circle distance - ie the shortest "straight line" connecting the two points. Note that the time and cost results are not available for the Straight Line option.
Use the Distance Units and Time Units options to set the units to use. Available units are miles, kilometers, minutes, and hours. Note that these options may be disabled if their corresponding outputs are disabled. Ie. Time Units is only enabled if you have selected a time output column.
The Road Speeds button will be enabled if road speeds are used in the selected route type and output. Press this button to display the Road Speeds dialog box.
The Preferred Roads route type requires a series of road preferences to be set. Set these by using the Road Preferences dialog box, which is displayed by pressing the Road Preferences button.
The Rest Stop Times button will be enabled if travel times have been selected for output. Press this button to display the Rest Stops and Overnight Stays dialog box. MapPoint can insert overnight stays and periodic rest stops into the calculated travel times. This dialog box is used to set these options.
The Costs button will be enabled if costs have been selected for output. Press this button to display the Driving Costs dialog box to set the various MapPoint cost options.
