Setting Rest Stops and Overnight Stays

The Time Calculation: Rest Stops and Overnight Stays dialog box is used to control how MapPoint applies overnight stays and rest stops to the computed travel times. This dialog box is displayed by pressing the Rest Stop Times button on the main MPMileage dialog box, and looks like this:

MapPoint can add two kinds of non-traveling time to a route's total time: rest stops, and overnight stays. Overnight stays are automatically added for every eight hours of traveling, and turn that eight hours into twenty four hours (ie. a day). Rest stops are automatically inserted during a day's travel at periodic intervals. Rest stops can only be inserted if overnight stays are also being inserted.

To switch this functionality on, set the Include overnight stays and rest stops check box. This will cause the travel times to include overnight stays.

To apply periodic rest stops as well, set the Apply rest stops every check box. This will then enable the two numeric boxes. The first, Apply rest stops every ... hours, sets the interval between each rest stop. This is specified in hours, and can be set to an accuracy of 0.25 hours (ie. 15 minutes). Note MapPoint resets this interval at the beginning of a new travel day - it does not carry a partial interval over from one day to the next.

The second numeric box, Each rest stop lasts ... minutes, is used to specify the duration for each rest stop. This is specified in minutes.
