Setting the Driving Costs

Top  Previous  Next

The Driving Costs dialog box is used to set the parameters that MapPoint uses when calculating a route's cost. It is displayed by pressing the Costs button on the main MPMileage dialog box, and looks like this:

panel_cost_distance

This dialog box displays all the cost parameters used by MapPoint. The main cost calculation can be either on a per-distance (mile / kilometer) basis, or by using fuel consumption figures. To give a per-distance figure, simply select "per mile" (or "per kilometer") in the cost drop down box,  and enter your cost per unit distance in the cost edit box.

If you wish to use fuel consumption figures, you should select one of the other options in the cost drop down box. These allow the cost to be specified per liter, US gallon, or UK gallon of fuel. When you do this, the fuel consumption options will be enabled and the dialog box will look like this:

You should then enter the average fuel consumption figures for highways and cities. Note that the units for these figures can also be adjusted. By combining the fuel consumption and fuel costs, MapPoint can then calculate the cost of driving.
